Material description
[Origin] Distributed in the South Pacific island countries: Fiji, Vanuatu, Polynesia and other places.
【 Chemical composition 】 Kavanolactone, Kavapyranone, etc. Specific 6 kinds of kava piperolactones: paprikine, dihydropaprikine, paprikine, dihydropaprikine, methoxylpaprikine and demethoxylpaprikine.
1. Nervous system effects
(1) Anti-anxiety effect: cavanolactone can improve the attention, memory and responsiveness of anxiety patients, so that patients are in a relaxed state, but its effect is slow. Jena University in Germany conducted a controlled experiment on 101 outpatients suffering from anxiety and obsessive-compulsive neurosis, patients were given 100mg/ day kava extract and placebo, 8 weeks later, kava group patients have significant effects.
(2) Sedative and hypnotic effect: intravenous or oral administration of dihydropachycapillin or dihydroanesthetic pachycapillin has sedative and hypnotic effect on mice, rats, rabbits and cats, and can cause ataxia and normal reflex disappearance at high doses. It is thought that kava pyranones may act through GABA receptor binding sites.
(3) Local anesthetic effect: Kava extract can cause muscle paralysis, local anesthetic effect on experimental frogs, paralyze the wings of bats and sparrows. The mechanism of action is similar to that of lidocaine, which acts by blocking potential dependent sodium channels.
2. Antifungal effects Kava piperanone has no inhibitory effect on the growth of gram-positive or gram-negative bacteria. Some kavapyrones have significant inhibitory effect on many fungi, including some human pathogens.
3. Muscle relaxation effects All kinds of kava piperopyranone have a muscle relaxation effect on all kinds of experimental animals, and it is more effective than Mephenesin in protecting mice against convulsive and lethal effects of strychnine.
4. Other effects Kava extract also has diuretic effect and antithrombotic effect.
